A good morning to you. I have tried solving my issue by looking at the different forums and the FAQs around, but I cannot find a solution.
The registering of my account works fine, but when I try to place a call, the app tells me 'dialing', but after about 30 seconds it stops the dialing process and reverts to the contacts screen. There is no error code or anything of the sort.
If you could give me a pointer or two, that would be great.

Could you post a diagnostic log and send an email with the reference number to support at counterpath dot com please?
We'll look into it for you.
To send a log, go to Settings | Advanced Settings. Scroll down to Application Logging. Verbose Logging should be turned ON. Reproduce the failed call scenario you are encountering and then press Send Log. Note the reference number and include that in your email.
