Bluetooth answer/hangup

Postby keithl » Tue Jan 19, 2010 2:44 pm

I want to use a bluetooth headset with Bria or EyeBeam. Absolutely no problem using mic and mono speaker (Headset Profile) but I want to use the buttons (answer/hangup, reject, redial, mute, voicedial).

EVERY cellphone works with any BT headset (Handsfree Profile). I suggest that two years from now, any reasonable softphone will HAVE to work with BT headset buttons to be competitive, but right now it seems hard to find one that does.

I've seen postings that say it works with Plantronics Voyager series so I bought a Voyager Pro and RocketFish BT dongle (2.0EDR) and no luck (with X-lite 4.0Beta).

Does Bria work? Will Bria 3.0 work? Any other softphones that work?

We do not support the use of BT buttons with any of our soft phones.
I'm sorry.

I actually think you might. I've seen quite a lot of messages about Plantronics Voyager 510USB and Personocall. I think this does support the buttons.

Still leaves three questions:

1) Do the buttons of any BT headset get recognised by X-Lite or Bria (by design or not)
2) When do you plan to support BT buttons
3) Does anyone know of a competitive product that supports BT buttons?

How about now? Does Bria 3 support the buttons on BT headsets (i.e. use the Handsfree Profile)? Sales stuff says yes, sort of. Am I in luck with Bria 3?

With HID support, does this mean I can use the buttons on any headset (specifically I have Plantronics Voyager Pro (the one that comes without the PlantronicsUSB
stick))

Also you said "not yet" for Handsfree Profile. Any plans? If so, what functionality will it support?

Hi Keith

Any device that is sold as HID compatible should work fine.
BT devices that use HF profile for buttons will not work. The device will work fine, but only as an audio device woth no answer/hang-up.
We are currently working to add this feature.

Here's a list of USB devices tested on Bria 3.0:
===========================

1) Plantronics DSP - All buttons can be mapped

2) GN Netcom 8120 - All buttons can be mapped

3) VoipVoice Model V652 USB Device - Only Volume Up/Down buttons can be mapped

4) Plantronics DA45 Adapter - Refer to Fogbugz 26971

5) Polycom C100 - is recognized as an HID device but our code filters it out because it does not report having any buttons of the telephony or consumer types.

6) Yealink P1K - Non-HID compliant

7) Yealink W1DL - Non-HID compliant

8) Plantronics CS50 - AWAITING RESOLUTION

Thanks, Derek, for a very complete answer!

Awaiting the great news of HFP support. If it comes reasonably soon, I believe Counterpath will be the first...

Is there any updated info of the status of this issue? Are you still working on the answer/hangup feature for mac?
thanks

I've heard that development has stopped in this area.

That is really too bad. :( We are really in need of this feature in our company's call center.
Is there a reason why they stopped development? Seems to me an important feature.

As I have been told there is no support for this on the O/S level, and that specialized BT radio software would be required.
I've always wanted this feature and was sad to hear this.
