Configure SILK codec in Asterisk for use by Bria

Postby helgi » Thu Apr 26, 2012 8:02 am

Hello all.
I attempt to use Bria with SILK codec on my own Asterisk server. I use Bria 1.2.3 and Asterisk 10.3.
When i do outgoing call - i get error "488 Not Acceptable here".
And when i answer to ingoing call - i got SIP response 406 "Not Acceptable".
In all cases connection not established.
Problem exist in all versions of bria. Problem exist in any types of transports(tcp, udp, tls).
All other codecs worked fine.

Maybe, i set incorrect configuration for SILK codec in my Asterisk server.
What bitrate relevant to "SILK_NB" and "SILK_WB" bria codecs?

Or, maybe this errors indicate that i have another trouble in configuration of my server?

I not found of manuals to decode this errors in Bria.
In standart SIP/2.0l it means "488 Codec Mismatch"... but i use same codec on all clients. And i have worked server, which support this codec.

Is Bria support SILK-to-SILK clients connection?

There is / should be nothing special about SILK; nothing specific to Bria. Just yet another codec.
I'm from iOS, the problems you mentioned are new to me; never seen / heard about these.
The errors are standard SIP errors, not app generated.
Log would be useful (via support) to see if server does generate these errors (it should be pass thru op to it).
Logs from both sides / apps.

NB is 8000 sampling and WB is 16000 sampling.

As turned out, problem with 406 error appeared when settings of encryption was incorrect.

SILK_WB now work fine on 16000, thanks for info about bitrate.

Both codecs, SILK-8000 and SILK-16000, now work good with CSipSimple softphone (version 0.03-01). I think, this means that Asterisk server configured right.

But still present problem with 488 error at attempt to answer call. It appear only if i enable SILK_NB codec.
If i disable NB and enable WB, then problem disappear and calls accepted normally.
Outgoing calls are succesfull at all codecs.

Looks like this trouble is specific to Bria and SILK_NB(maybe, only in android edition).

I found info about similar bug in early versions of CSipSimple:
Problem - is disparity ids of codecs in "rtpmap" parameters in Asterisk and Bria SDP messages.

CSipSimple developer resolved this trouble when he changed a default bitrate for codec in his application.

I will attempt to talk with Bria support for made similar fix in their product.
