Unable to even reach settings as GUI/Skin is mangles

Hi,

I just installed it fresh on an XP machine, but the GUI/Skin is totally mangled.
As bad as, that I can't even see where I'm supposed to be clicking on etc.
The menu (and some other items) are so transparent that when I try to guess where I should click .. I actually select something on the desktop below it.

Please advice
