Settings fro SIP provider RingCentral

Postby birusan » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:12 pm

RingCentral's SIP service is working correctly when using a Linksys Sipura IP Phone 921 and with a second line connected to RC's own softphone, but I can't seem to find the right settings to let me log into Bria for Outlook instead of using the RC softphone.
Settings I have from RC include:
My user id, which is also my phone number, 1424270xxxx
My password, 6 digits 123456
My Auth ID, a 7-digit number 7777777
SIP domain sipDOTringcentralDOTcomCOLON5060
Proxy sipDOTringcentralDOTcomCOLON5090

Do I use STUN? ICE? Target or proxy? Any special dialing plan string? Anything else I should know? Thanks.

All of the same settings are available in BFO. The username now includes the domain in the format of: user @ domain

Thx. I did indeed try the user name as "1424270xxxx@sipDOTringcentralDOTcom". Still doesn't connect. Do I need to use (or specifically not use) any of the other settings, like stun or ice? Should I use domain, proxy or target?
I've been waiting for an app like this that integrates Outlook with VoIP. Hope I can get it to work.

Please use domain.

Are you able to connect using X-Lite?

Tried X-Lite and it registers correctly, gets dial tone and can dial out to make calls, but it doesn't receive calls. (No activity seems to happen on the PC while the line is ringing from another phone.)

Sounds like router issues.
Are you using a Linksys router?

Not Linksys, D-Link DIR-655.

But RingCentral's SoftPhone does work (receives calls) on this same laptop (while X-Lite can send but not receive and BFO cannot even sign in) and I haven't changed any router configuration.

Diagnostics log shows insufficient upstream bandwidth

Postby birusan » Wed Apr 08, 2009 9:57 pm

As I have 15 Mbps upstream, BFO doesn't appear to be finding it:

You can't use the same settings for other SIP-phones as used by RC SIP-phone. I think you need to specify that you use own SIP phone while adding another RC line. You can then get the necessary settings from their web interface. Note however that some extra-features are only available while using RC soft-phone.

BTW, AFAIK RC soft-phone also integrates with Outlook in some way.

RC Digital Line pre-provisioned for specific phone client?

Postby birusan » Thu Apr 09, 2009 7:28 am

I had seen somewhere in an earlier post here that while you can't order a RC Digital Line for their soft phone and then use it for an ATA box or hardware IP-phone, you could substitute other software SIP phone clients. But perhaps they were wrong, as we seem to be discovering here.
RC does integrate with Outlook's contacts (syncs, does pop-ups) it doesn't have all the other features of BFO.

Got X-Lite to work with new RC number but not Bria

Postby birusan » Thu Apr 09, 2009 8:17 am

OK, signed up for an add'l RC Digital Line, this time checking box that I would be provisioning my own SIP phone and it gave me instructions (notable only that the user is the 10-digit phone number, but the password AND Auth ID are both the same 7-digit number). Used it to configure X-Lite and this time it worked in both directions-- it would now also receive calls.
Exited X-Lite, configured BFO, ran Outlook, but still shows in SIP Accounts as "Disabled". Ran the diagnostics, still shows insufficient upstream bandwidth.
Now what should I try?

You need to enable the SIP account for it to work.
If it cannot be enabled, look at your account config for an issue.
